Safeguarding at Clear Steps Plus Education
At Clear Steps Plus Education, safeguarding is the foundation of everything we do. Many of our young people arrive having faced challenges, instability, or environments where they haven’t always felt safe. Our first priority is to change that. We build trust through consistency, calm communication, and genuine care — creating a place where learners feel seen, heard, and protected.
Safeguarding is not just a policy for us; it’s a culture. Every member of staff is trained to notice when something isn’t right, to listen without judgement, and to act quickly. Often it’s the everyday moments — a quiet conversation, a change in mood, a learner lingering at the door — that help us recognise when support is needed. We take every concern seriously, no matter how small it may seem.
Our Statutory Safeguarding Commitment
Clear Steps Plus Education fully complies with all statutory safeguarding requirements, including:
- Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)
- Working Together to Safeguard Children
- The Education Act 2002 (Section 175)
- Local Safeguarding Partnership procedures
- Safer recruitment legislation and guidance
We operate a whole-provision safeguarding approach, ensuring:
- A Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Deputy DSLs are always available
- All staff receive regular safeguarding and child protection training
- Clear reporting lines and escalation procedures
- Robust safer recruitment checks for all staff and visitors
- Ongoing monitoring, review, and quality assurance of safeguarding practice
Our Clear Steps Safeguarding Process
We follow a simple, consistent procedure to ensure concerns are handled swiftly and effectively:
1. Recognise
- noticing signs, disclosures, or behaviours that may indicate a concern
2. Respond
– listening calmly, reassuring the learner, and avoiding leading questions
3. Record
– documenting concerns factually and promptly on our secure system
4. Report
– passing the concern immediately to the DSL or Deputy DSL
5. Review & Support
– the DSL team assesses risk, takes action, and ensures ongoing support
This approach ensures no concern is ever overlooked and every learner receives timely, appropriate help.
Working Together to Keep Children Safe
Safeguarding is a shared responsibility. We work closely with:
- Parents and carers
- Local authorities
- Early Help teams
- Social care
- Health and mental health services
- Police and specialist agencies
This multi-agency approach ensures that each young person receives the right support at the right time, and that decisions are always made in their best interests. When young people feel safe, they can learn. When they feel understood, they can grow. When they feel supported, they can take clear steps toward a brighter future.
